The Wolf Ford WR1 is a Formula 1 single-seater that competed in the 1977 and 1978 seasons. Powered by a traditional Ford Cosworth DFV engine, it was designed by Harvey Postlethwaite and was the first car the Canadian manufacturer entered in Formula 1. Fitted with a Hewland FG400 gearbox, it ran on Goodyear tyres. It made its debut at the 1977 Argentine Grand Prix with a victory, and competed in a total of 15 world championship races, always driven by Jody Scheckter, except at the 1978 Canadian Grand Prix when one car was also entrusted to Bobby Rahal. With this car, Scheckter secured three victories (Argentina, Monaco, Canada), all in 1977. He also achieved a second place (South Africa 1977) and two third places (United States West 1977 and Monaco 1978). Curiously, he always finished on the podium whenever he saw the chequered flag. He also competed in a race outside the World Championship (the 1977 Race of Champions), where he finished second, again with Jody Scheckter. Team Wolf finished the 1977 season in fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship, whilst Jody Scheckter managed to become World Championship runner-up behind Niki Lauda. Technically, the Wolf Ford WR1 was a very interesting car. The distinctive front end housed the oil cooler, whilst the two water coolers were positioned lengthwise at the rear of the sides, which had a characteristic bottle-shaped profile. Careful study of aerodynamic flows led to the elimination of the traditional rear wing support strut, replaced by a horizontal tube that held the two side fins firmly together. Also worth noting is the stunning livery of this single-seater, painted in an elegant midnight blue with gold graphics that made it unforgettable.
