List of products by manufacturer FORMULA MODELS

For over 25 years, Colin Fraser, proprietor of Formula Models, has been hand-building 1/43 scale model Indy, Grand Prix, F5000 and single-seat CanAm cars. He has also been building limited edition models under the name Automodel art from proprietary kits, including sports racing and GT cars. Formula Models has a worldwide reputation for high-quality workmanship and attention to detail. Colin Fraser’s love for model cars started as a child and found satisfaction in modifying diecast toys and building plastic kits, his main interest being F1 cars and CanAm series sports cars. He lived close to Brands Hatch and regularly visited to watch race meetings. It was at the circuit’s model and bookshop that he first saw both Solido diecast models and later the iconic John Day range of white metal kits. These fired his enthusiasm and having seen both the JPS Lotus 79 and Ferrari T3 of 1978 race, he wanted to make models of these cars. The ensuing years saw him take an even greater interest in model making, while his prowess led him to build kits for others, to trade and to create his own collection. In 1987 he started Formula Models on a part-time basis and commenced the manufacture of a series of Indy Cars, which were to become his trademark. Less than a year later he decided to take the plunge and build model cars full time. Throughout his career, Colin’s work has frequently been inspired by the motor racing stars and the cars they drove – Graham Hill, Chris Amon and Nigel Mansell, to name but a few. Ferraris have been a theme for him and through this he met Nathan Beehl who ran the Ferrari Model Club and also worked at Grand Prix Models.
